Aquila And Priscilla : Families And Kingdom

Text:
Acts 18:1-3, 24-28

Memory Verse:
“So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately” (Acts 18:26).

When a couple is being joined together in holy matrimony, three reasons are stated as the purpose of marriage. There is, however, a fourth reason for bringing a man and a woman together as husband and wife. It is the fact that marriage is for ministry. It is important to enlighten the young ones that marriage is actually also about fulfilling ministry for kingdom impact. Every opportunity to counsel intending couples should also be used to make them understand this.

Ministry is yearning for people and becoming like Jesus to many people. When Paul left Athens, he went to Corinth and there found this couple called Aquila and Priscilla. They took Paul in to stay with them and, since he was of the same trade with them, they allowed him to practise his trade with them and together they worked as tentmakers.

When Aquila and Priscilla came across Apollos who was eloquent and versed in the scriptures, speaking and teaching accurately things concerning Jesus, but only knew about the baptism of John, they took him and explained to him the way of God more accurately. Aquila and Priscilla were in ministry together. The family is the bedrock of the Kingdom and this we see demonstrated by Aquila and Priscilla, Abraham and Sarah and, also, when God created Eve for Adam, etc. As a couple, can you say that you are ministering to others with your marriage? Are you engulfed in the “me and my spouse alone” syndrome? Repent today!

Prayer Points:
1. Repent of your failure in God’s purpose for your marriage today and ask God for mercy.
2. Father, please help me and my spouse to discover and fulfil the ministry You have for us.
