Are You Numbering God’s People

Text:
1 Chronicles 21:1-7

Memory Verse:
“And David said to Joab and to the rulers of people go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan, and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it” (1 Chronicles 21:2).

Satan has always been in the business of counterfeiting every move of God. Realising this, we must be watchful at all times and obey the word of the Lord that says “resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Leadership is a great responsibility and great care should be taken, especially when one is making outstanding successes. You must watch your steps. It is very easy to sit on God’s seat without knowing and you can be deceived into thinking that God is still leading, especially when great things are being done through you. In some cases the flesh and not the Spirit of God could actually be the one dictating.

Satan moved David to number the people who Joab described as ‘David’s servants’ (1 Chronicles 21:3). Though, in some sense, this was true, in the real sense, that description was not true. David was the earthly king, but God was the One who put him in charge of His people. By numbering the people, David had taken the place of God as the owner of the people, an action which displeased God greatly and caused Him to smite Israel.

Are you working against the counsel of God without knowing it? Are your moves God-approved? The enemy is roaming about, like a lion, looking for whom to destroy. As a leader you might escape the repercussions, but the people under you might suffer greatly because of your decision. The people suffered because of the error of king David. Do not take God’s rightful place.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord Jesus, destroy every move of Satan over my life.
2. Lord, if I have troubled Your people, let mercy triumph over judgement.
