2 Peter 1:2-7
Memory Verse:
“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love” (2 Peter 1:5-7).
If an unpredictable person walks into your room, you will wonder what the person is going to do next. This is not so with God. Listen to what Exodus 34:6 says, “And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abounding in
goodness and truth.’” Hebrews 13:8 also confirms that God is predictable. He created the whole earth before taking a rest. He is loving and does not desire that man should perish in
sin. God is steadfast. He tells us that He does not change in Malachi 3:6. He is the One whose Spirit infused power into the early Church at Pentecost.
Believers today are also beneficiaries of the same faith and Spirit used by the Apostles to do greater works than Jesus did. The early Church held on steadfastly to the teaching of the doctrines laid down by the Apostles. Faith worked in them to produce virtues. Real faith always grows. Laziness loses in life and faith. We must be steadfast and persevere for our faith to endure to the end.
Anyone can show some degree of self-control, but we have to be steadfast to produce godly characteristics. Do not shift your focus based on external circumstances or the preferences of the people you live with. Who would you like to be 20 years from now? What will it take to achieve this vision? Be consistent and continue to work towards your spiritual and physical goals.
Prayer Points:
1. Help me, Lord, to be steadfast and consistent in all that I do.
2. May I realise that a steadfast life is one that is worth pursuing.
