Building a Godly Marriage

Text: Genesis 1:26-29; 2:20-25

Memory Verse: “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him” (Genesis 2:18).

Is it not interesting that the word ‘build’ is being used in relation to marriage? To build is to construct, especially something complex, by Iassembling and joining parts or materials. It is to create something intentionally. A relationship for example is built on trust, a very important material in marriage. Building also entails continuous strengthening of existing structures. We live in a fast-changing world, but God and His word do not change
(Psalm 119:89). You must determine to build your marriage relationship with durable materials such as the fear of God, unreserved commitment to the relationship, unflinching trust in God and one another. Many other good
materials which are offshoots of these will also come in handy along the way. Luke 14:28 says anyone aiming for a successful venture must count the cost.

For your marriage to be godly, it must be founded and built on godly, Bible supported principles. God introduced Himself to us at creation as a united three-some that worked in love. If the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is
inevitable. Genesis 1:26-28 tells the plan, purpose and provision of God for man and woman. To start right, you must make your choice of a marriage partner based on what drives your partner, the Holy Spirit, and not what they drive. Know that the plan of God for marriage is that it be between a biological man and a biological woman; only two people (Ephesians 5:31). Are you unreservedly committed to building a godly relationship?

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help Your children to make the right choices in building their marriages.
2. Please help me build my marriage with the right materials.
