Text:
1 Thessalonians 2:17&18; Ezra 4:1-5

Memory Verse:
“Therefore we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us” (1 Thessalonians 2:18).

Is it possible for a child of God to be hindered by Satan? It appears so, because that was who Paul said prevented him from achieving his purpose of visiting the Thessalonians. How was that possible and how did he overcome it?
To hinder is to obstruct, delay, interfere with and prevent someone from doing something or retard progress in a project. The rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem was hindered by Satan through the adversaries that he raised against Judah and Benjamin. They came under the pretext of helping, but withstood the people and prevented the work from continuing. They raised needless
objections that caused an assignment initiated by God through King Cyrus of Persia to be delayed for years and till the 6th year of the reign of King Darius (Ezra 4:4-24; 6:6-15).
How did Satan achieve these hindrances? It was by raising ungodly men who could be tools in his hands. When Herod heard from the wise men that a King had been born in Bethlehem, he became a tool in Satan’s hand and in a jealous rage killed all male children under the age of two hoping to destroy the baby(Matthew 2:13-16)!
The goal of every hindrance is to prevent the purpose of God in or for a life. The good news is that when Jesus died and rose from the dead, He destroyed the works of the devil (1 John 3:8b). So we overcome Satan through the shed blood of Jesus. Do not give Satan any room or foothold in your affairs. Keep yourself under God’s cover.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I keep myself and all mine under Your protective cover.
2. May I not be careless or give Satan room to hinder me.
