Caring For Children As God’s Heritage

Text: Psalm127:1-5

Memory Verse: “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is His reward” (Psalm 127:3).

Heritage refers to inheritance, which can include an estate, property, or title passed down to someone by law. It signifies ownership. In the same way, children, as God’s heritage, belong to Him. They are His, and parents merely serve as stewards. Raising children demands significant resources such as time, energy, and finances. The most crucial aspect of upbringing is providing a strong moral foundation. Children learn best through imitation, which makes it essential for parents to model a practical Christian lifestyle at home. With a solid character, children are better equipped to face the challenges of society.

It is important to remember that children are God’s heritage (Jeremiah 1:5); parents are entrusted as caretakers. Like a garden, children must be tended with care and attention to ensure they flourish. Proverbs 22:6 advises, “Train up
a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” God has a plan and purpose for each child, and parents play a vital role in helping them fulfil it. To succeed in the great responsibility of caring for God’s heritage and ensuring their future success, parents must rely on the power of prayer. Pray for their future, education, career, marriage, and every aspect of their lives (Isaiah 54:13). Never speak curses over your children; instead, bless them, and they will flourish, fulfilling their destiny as God’s heritage.

Prayer Points:
1. Thank You, Lord, for the gift of the children You have given me.
2. Father, help me care for these children as Your heritage.
