Text: Genesis 26:1-6, 12-14
Memory Verse: “Then the LORD appeared to him and said: ‘Do not go down
to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you’” (Genesis 26:2).
Isaac was confronted by a terrible famine and was about to make a
catastrophic decision to relocate to Egypt. God, however, gave him timely counsel to stay in Gerar.
Isaac obeyed God, despite the odds, and was handsomely rewarded. Thus, while in Gerar, he sowed in the land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold harvest. The Lord blessed him, and he waxed great and grew until he became very great. He had herbs and a great store of servants such that the Philistines envied him.
Your access and obedience to divine counsel will determine your progress into the fulfilment of God’s promise that you will flourish (Isaiah 48:17-19). Through divine counsel:
1. Noah and his family escaped the flood that destroyed their world. “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith” (Hebrews 11:7).
2. Israel was liberated from Egypt and was preserved through the wilderness into their promised land. It was through Moses, whom God preserved and raised for that purpose, that He delivered Israel from its 430 years of captivity in Egypt.
3. You are confirmed as a bonafide child of God, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. The proof of your son-ship in God is your undeniable access and unquestionable obedience to divine counsel.
Prayer Points:
1. I receive grace to always wait to hear the Lord and live by His counsel today and always.
2. I decree that I will enjoy the benefits of divine counsel.
