Ruth 2:2-12
Memory Verse:
“And she said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came and has continued from morning until now, though she rested a little in the house” (Ruth 2:7).
We live in a time when many people lock themselves up in a room waiting for miracles to happen rather than engaging themselves in a job to earn a living. They deny themselves the opportunity to
grow and impact others (Proverbs 10:24). Ruth requested her mother in-law to let her go to the field and glean ears of corn after anyone in whose sight she would find grace. Ruth continued in this work from morning until evening with only a little rest. She did not allow her status as a stranger to dissuade her from going out to look for a job. She was also not ashamed of her kind of job, which could best be described as a menial job. Determination, resilience and hardwork are some of the qualities of a true Christian, as seen in the life of Ruth, who took to a menial job just to make ends meet. Because of her resilient spirit, and faithfulness she was noticed in the field by all, but most especially Boaz. God rewarded her with a position in the lineage of Christ through her marriage to Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech, a Bethlehemite (Ruth 4:13).
Ruth’s story is a challenge to anyone, especially a believer, who is lazy or ashamed to do a menial job (Proverbs 6:6). If you fall into this category, you are challenged to, like Ruth, go into the field right now and put your hands to work. The God who rewards the humble and diligent worker will visit you and take away your reproach.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, give me a seed in my hand.
2. Lord, let the work of my hands bring forth fruits.
