Text:
Revelation 2:1-7
Memory Verse:
“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love” (Revelations 2: 4).
When the children of Israel were leaving Egypt for the Promised Land, God gave them so many instructions to guide them in having a continued relationship with Him. The most important of
these was holiness unto the Lord! This must be because holiness is what opens the door for fellowship with the holy God (Hebrews 12:14). “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Holiness requires setting oneself apart to please God in all things and at all times.
Going through chapters two and three of the book of Revelation, one discovers that God, while commending the churches, especially the first four, for all their efforts to remain faithful to Him, still pointed out their lapses which, if not corrected, could separate them from Him. Although events in the world around us are geared largely towards unholy behaviours, the Christian with
heaven in mind, should focus on holiness at all costs. Lessons for you:
1. No one should feel satisfied yet when it has to do with holiness unto God. It requires constant improvement until the end of life’s journey.
2. Attempting to please God through ritual worship or fulfilment of the Ten Commandments is not acceptable. You have to give your life to Jesus and remain with Him all through.
Note that God’s demand of holiness from Israel and the seven churches is the same for His children today. He does not alter His standards because He does not change in mercy and love. Are you ready to please Him by living a holy life daily?
Prayer Points:
1. Forgive me, Lord, in every area that I have failed to live holy unto You.
2. Help me to remain holy from now, O Lord.
