Text:
Daniel 1:1-10
Memory Verse:
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore, he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).
Determination is the act of making or arriving at a decision – the quality of being resolute or firm in purpose. Daniel was far better than others because he knew who lived in him and he was determined not to allow food to separate him from God. He was filled with the Spirit of God and this helped him in making the right decisions. Jabez was highly honoured, but he was not comfortable with the sorrow attached to his name. He was determined for a change of name and a better life which made him wrestle with God and he got what he wanted.
After Jesus Christ departed, the Holy Spirit filled the disciples just as He
promised and they were never the same. They began to do exploits. This was
made possible because they were determined to wait for the infilling of the
Holy Spirit as promised (Acts 1:8). We must be determined as children of God to:
1. Overcome the past and look up to God for mercy (Romans 11:30).
2. Overcome fear and be victorious.
3. Trust God even in difficult times, and fight the good fight of faith.
4. Have faith and trust in God.
5. Do good always “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due
season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6;9).
What goals have you set for yourself to achieve in life? Are they the same as
what God has determined for you? If yes, pursue them with determination,
faith and trust in God.
