Implications Of Knowing In Part

Text:
Jonah 1:1-6,12-16; 1 Corinthians 13:9

Memory Verse:
“For we know in part and we prophesy in part”
(1 Corinthians 13:9).

One of the things we dread most as mortals is the unknown. The truth is that we are very limited both in our capacity to fully understand what we know and to even envisage what will happen exactly. Knowing in part means we have blind spots. Even the very little we seem to
know still needs to fit into the jigsaw puzzle of life. That is why the Scripture says that we should acknowledge the Lord God in all our ways, so He can direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Acknowledging our limitations of the knowledge of how things will eventually turn out should produce an attitude of seeking to know God’s will concerning the desires of our hearts. Only the eternal God could have understood what Jonah the prophet was up to and devised such a mind-boggling way of bringing him back to the path of rectitude. The sailors with Jonah could not understand why they were bedevilled with such a storm that threatened their lives. But even though they did not know the God of Israel, they knew they needed divine intervention. They, therefore,
asked even Jonah to call upon his God. The only solution he offered them amounted to murder. But after praying and armed with his testimony, they threw him overboard in line with God’s will and it was a win-win for all the parties!
The sailors sought God’s solution, eventually got it and wisely acknowledged Him as a worthy guide. Are you wise enough to acknowledge your limitations and let God be your guide?

Prayer Points:
1. Father help me to always remember that I am limited in knowledge and understanding.
2. I pledge to defer to Your will always; help me, Lord Jesus.
