Text:
1 Kings 15:1-6.
Memory Verse:
“And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David” (1Kings 15:3).
Is your heart loyal to God? Are you sure of who God is and are fully committed to honouring, following and serving Him? We do things half- heartedly for various reasons and this affects the effort we put in and the outcome. The heart is the problem. Victor did not understand why his boss had given him this assignment. He was not happy about it and did not prepare. When he was called to speak, he had nothing to say. He was embarrassed because all eyes were on him, expectantly. His heart had not been in the assignment, he did not own it and so did not prepare adequately.
To honour, follow, serve, and please God, you must understand what you have
committed to. You must believe Him without doubt and your heart must be
committed and loyal to Him. David loved the Lord wholeheartedly (1 Kings
15:3-5). His love and commitment became a standard for generations after him. Was he perfect and sinless? No. We know of at least two instances when he stepped out of line: in the matter of Uriah and when he counted the people
erroneously (2 Samuel 24:1-10). Did you notice how he repented of the second
sin and that it was not recorded against him in 1 Kings 15:5?
Your heart must be loyal to God, if you have decided to follow him. If it is, you
will not only do what is right by Him, but, like David, you will be honestly
sorry when you make mistakes. God knows your heart. Are you loyal to Him?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord search me and see if there is any disloyalty in me. Please help make amends.
2. Please forgive my disloyalty, O Lord.
