Matthew 14: 27-33

Memory Verse:
“And immediately, Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’” (Matthew 14:31).

To give a helping hand is to come to the aid of a person. Jesus Christ specializes in helping those in need. The disciples had a hard time for nine hours rowing the boat in stormy weather. The storm was not abating and to the seasoned fishermen, such weather was sure death. That was probably why Peter’s fear was heightened when a figure appeared out of the thunderous weather and he cried out, “It is a ghost!” (Matthew 14:26). But Jesus responded, “…it is I, do not be afraid.” He had
shown up to save them from the boisterous storm. To confirm that it was really Jesus, Peter said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Surprisingly, he was able to walk on the water, but then he heard the waves splashing about him, shifted his gaze from Jesus and down he went, yelling “Lord, save me”.

Jesus’ reached out His hand, saved Peter and rebuked him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” In the twinkling of an eye, chaos turned to calm, panic turned to peace. Like Jonathan, who gave a helping hand to David and delivered him from king Saul, Jesus expects us to lend a helping hand to brethren and others as that is our calling (1John 3:16). Jesus is always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone who cries for help. All you have to do is exercise your faith in Jesus –He can do all things.

Prayer Points:
1. Help me not to doubt Your Word, O Lord.

2. Increase my faith in You.
