Levite’ Role In The Kingdom Service

Text:
Numbers 3: 5-13
Memory Verse:
“And they shall attend to his needs and the needs of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of meeting, to do the work of the tabernacle” (Numbers 3:7).

The Levites are the descendants of Levi, the third son of Jacob. Aaron and Moses descended from Kohath, one of the sons of Levi. Levites were consecrated for the service of the Lord and were in charge of the tabernacle (Exodus 28:1). As ministers, they were exempted from military duties (Numbers 1:40-50). Levites were the priests’ helpers and were responsible for the holy instruments and the vessels that were in the tabernacle. They also served the congregation of the Israelites and were special servants of the Lord. They served as priests before the Lord, blessing the people, preparing the shewbread and assisting the priest. The Levites had no inheritance, it was a selfless service. However, the congregation was to assist them materially. The attributes of the Levite
include, loyalty to the Lord, placing God above family members, keeping God’s commands, teaching God’s laws to the people, regular offering of incense and prayers.

In the present dispensation, the Levite is the church worker. Like the Levite, the worker is called to the Lord’s service. He is expected to leave all to follow the Lord (Matthew 4:18-22); have intimate relationship with Christ; and be readily available, committed and faithful. As Christ’s disciple, the Christian worker must have a teachable heart, accepting Christ’s teaching both in belief and
lifestyle. He must also be ready to teach others, and must match his good services with his behaviour. Are you serving as a Levite in your church, working selflessly in God’s service?

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, as I surrender myself unto Your service, grant me the grace to always be available to serve selflessly and with the right attitude.
2. Father, consecrate me for Your service always.
