Exodus 17:10-13
Memory Verse:
“And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed (Exodus 17:11).
Amalek came to fight Israel on their way to the Promised Land and Moses directed Joshua to fight while he, Moses, raised his hands to God. Israel was winning as long as Moses’ hands were raised up. However, he could not sustain his hands all alone; Aaron and Hur had to assist him. The same way our leaders should be encouraged to succeed in any assignment they are engaged in.
Like Moses, leaders at all levels – government, church, family – often get tired and discouraged, so they need our support. God expects us to lift up their hands by interceding for them and their families, and by being obedient and law abiding. The Bible says, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are
appointed by God” (Romans 13:1). Let us be diligent in praying for our leaders. The Bible commands us to do so, that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives (I Timothy 2:1&2).
Lifting up a leader’s hand means supporting him to succeed in his God’s given assignment. Remember, without your support, the leader might not be able to fulfil his assignments. Recognise too that the success of the leader is the success of the followers.
Are you willing to be part of those lifting up the hands of your leaders in prayers, in giving, and in obeying their instructions? Please, examine yourself and determine to be one of those who will give support to your church leader.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, empower me to always lift up my leader’s hands.
2. Lord, please help our leaders to always prevail in all the battles of their lives.
