Mothers’ Influence On Children

Text:
Judges 17:1-6; 2 Timothy 1:3-5
Memory Verse:
“when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5)

Micah had stolen eleven hundred shekels of silver from his mother, and she had placed a curse on the one who stole the shekels of silver. He then repented, and returned them to his mother, but rather than his mother chastising him for stealing, she blessed him and even went ahead to use part of the returned silver to make a carved image and a moulded image for his son.
Micah’s mother’s action resulted in him having a shrine, and he made an ephod and household idols. He even consecrated one of his sons to become a priest over the shrine. What a negative mother’s influence! In Genesis 27, we see how Rebekah influenced her son, Jacob, to cheat on his brother Esau and take his birthright. Even when Jacob pointed out the consequence of his action, if
caught, she said to him “let your curse be on me, my son…” (Genesis 27:13).
A good example of a mother’s influence on their children from generation to generation can be seen in that which Lois had on Eunice and Eunice on Timothy, so much that Apostle Paul testified of it, saying “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your
grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also” (2 Timothy 1:5).
What type of mother are you? And what type of influence are you having on your children?

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, make our mothers have a godly influence on their children.
2. Lord, in Your mercy, redeem every child that has been negatively influenced by the mother.
