Text: 2 Kings 1:9-12

Memory Verse: “So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, ‘If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.’ And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty” (2 Kings 1:10).

Elijah sat conspicuously on top of a hill and waited. He knew, as is sometimes typical of people in power, that the king would come after him when he got his message. But they were not really Elijah’s words; they were God’s (2 Kings 1:17a). Though God, who had shown Himself strong, was available in Israel, the new king, Ahaziah, Ahab’s son, had sought information about his illness from BaalZebub! He wanted to know whether he would live or die after his fall. True to his expectations, the king sent not one or two, but 50 men led by a captain to arrest him! Elijah, with godly indignation, called down fire to consume them. Satan and his cohorts needed to be put in their place as often as they showed their ugly faces in the affairs of God’s children! He was not afraid, but depended on his God to defend him and so should you. In his words, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And, truly, fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

For God to honour and defend you, you must live right according to the dictates of His word. You must also ensure that you live in a way that God’s name is glorified. God will defend His name. It is only by His power that you
can put the devil in his place.

Prayer Points:
1. May my heart always be available as the seat of the Holy Spirit.
2. May I not give room to envy and jealousy in my life.
