Text:
John 14:15-24
Memory Verse:
“He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (John 14: 21).
The creation of the World and God’s relationship with man is founded on obedience. The process of creation involved obedience by all creation to the spoken commands of God. It is all embedded in the words, “And God said, let there be…and there was.” One who loves, delights in pleasing the one he loves and does his will at all times, especially when it is not convenient. The love relationship between God the Father and Jesus Christ is expressed through Christ’s total and consistent obedience to the will of His Father. This is evident in Christ’s declaration “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4: 34).
At the Garden of Gethsemane, this same commitment to obeying the Father made Jesus to, against His own will, submit to death on the cross declaring “… nevertheless, not my will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:44). Jesus’ life was a reflection of His charge to His disciples, “If you love me, keep My commandments” (John 15:15). Obedience to His commandments is the sure evidence of our love for Him. This was the guiding principle for the early disciples who, like their Master, Jesus, were willing to obey Him to the point of death.
Does your declaration of love for God show in your response to His commandments? This is the only way in which you can truly demonstrate your love to the One who created you for a greater purpose.
Prayer Points:
1. Thank You, Jesus, for making me understand the importance of obedience as a reflection of my love for You.
2. Help me, Lord, to fully reflect my love for You through total obedience to Your commandments.
