Matthew 24:45-51
Memory Verse:
“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes, will find so doing” (Matthew 24: 45&46).
For a moment, let’s pretend you work as my executive assistant in a company that is growing rapidly. As the owner, I am interested in expanding overseas. To pull this off, I plan to travel to Europe for six to eight months until the new branch office gets established. I leave you in charge of the busy stateside organisation with a promise to write to you regularly with directions and instructions. Months pass, letters are mailed from Europe and received by you, spelling out all my expectations. Finally, I return and receive the shock of my life. The company is in disarray! Matthew 24 begins with the disciples asking Jesus “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” They probably needed to know so they could prepare, but Jesus answered, warning them to be ready, saying, in summary: “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44).
Are you living in obedience to the Master’s instructions and warnings about life and His return? Jesus went to the bottom line when He said, “I left you an
example of what you should do”—in effect, carry out my directions, fulfil my
commands, and follow my instructions (John13:15). That’s obedience. That’s
doing what we are told to do. You have been called to a life of obedience to God’s instructions as written in the Bible.
Prayer Points:
1. Ask for the mercy and forgiveness of God over every neglect and disobedient act you ever engaged in.
2. Holy Spirit, please help me to live a life of complete obedience to You.
