Proverbs 22: 6-10
Memory Verse:
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old,
he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22: 6).
Society plays key roles in influencing a child, but it is the work of the parents, to teach them the right Godly values. There are three major places where children should be trained; the home, the school and the church. However, many parents are so busy and consumed by other things that the proper training of their children does not take priority. Have you ever considered this proverb “a child that is not trained will eventually sell off the house that we spend our time and life building?”
The Bible instructs that children be trained when they are young. Children learn more by example. Are you a good example to your children? Jesus’ parents took Him to the temple while Timothy’s grandmother and mother were great influences on him (2 Timothy 1:5). Ephesians 6:4says “and you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”
Today’s school system does not adequately support the proper training of children. Gone are the days when schools began the day with morning devotions. Wise parents will, therefore, not depend solely on the school to train their children. Only a God fearing teacher can influence your child positively. How are you preparing your children for the future? Hiding the word of God in their hearts early in life cannot be overemphasized. It keeps them away from sin
and evil, if imbibed. Psalm 119:11 says, ‘Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You’. Instill the right values in your children early.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to play my role in bringing up godly children.
2. Lord, help me to be a good example and role model to my children
