Text:
Philippians 3:1&2; 7-14; 20
Memory Verse:
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly
wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ,” (Philippians 3:20).
Phillipians 3:1 says that it is safe to repeat some issues for emphasis. This is why we must continually remind ourselves of the fact that our citizenship is in heaven. In the journey of life, there are four categories of people. Those who know where they are going. Those who do not know, those who know but are preoccupied with other things and those who know where they are going, and are focused enough to press forward to achieve their goal.
When all the toil here on earth is done, what would then happen? Jesus said in
John 14:2&3,“I go to prepare a place for you.” If you believe that heaven is real, then it behoves you to press towards it. How?
1. You must daily forget your past achievements or failures and press forward.
As a work in progress, don’t be complacent (Philippians 3:12&13).
2. You must identify your weak points and work at overcoming them.
3. Fix your gaze on Christ and on no one else (Hebrews 12:2&3). Even when
you are discouraged and weary, look unto Jesus. Be in sync with Him, hear
Him, know and do His will.
4. Constantly examine and prove yourself in the light of God’s word. Make sure you are standing right in Him, so you can be fit for heaven. As you identify lapses, work on them and overcome them.
5. You must run purposefully (1Corinthians 9:26 & 27) reminding yourself
that there is a heavenly reward far greater than the earthly benefits you can
enjoy (Hebrews 10:35-37).
Are you pressing on?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, please help me as I press towards the heavenly goal.
2. Please keep me focused O Lord.
