Prevailing In The Place Of Prayer

Text:
Genesis 32:9-12, 24-28

Memory Verse:
“And He said, ‘Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed’” (Genesis 32:28).

Worry, anxiety and fear are playmates and every Christian is warned Wagainst giving in to any of these ‘triplets’ being paraded daily by the devil. Jacob’s initial reaction when he was told of the visit
planned by Esau, his brother, was one of fear. Had Jacob called his household together to seek the advice of the majority, one can only wonder if they would have suggested a prayer vigil. However, Jacob resorted to a personal and private prayer time in the presence of God, so He could work on him. Jacob was alone, armed with the weapons of tears and prayers. The struggle was long and his hip socket was dislocated in the process, yet he prevailed (Genesis 32:25). Jacob the conniving, shrewd and cheating younger brother became Israel, the prince of God.
It is obvious that Jacob did not wrestle in his own strength, nor did he prevail because he trusted in his human power. The hand from heaven that broke his thigh also blessed him. Jacob proved the saying that the human soul withers without prayers, worship and meditation on God just as the body weakens without light, air, exercise and food.
Whatever the situation or circumstance that comes your way, like Jacob, you should tarry in the place of prayer till you prevail. For Jacob, it was a do or die affair till he received his blessing. He was persistent in the place of prayer, he received and his life was not the same thereafter. May you receive strength to fight till you prevail.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, give me grace to prevail in the place of prayer.
2. Lord, take away all my fears and worries.
