Text:
Genesis 39:1-6
Memory Verse:
“And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand” (Genesis 39:3).
Joseph was a slave boy who knew the Lord and carried His anointing and favour everywhere he went. He had been sold into slavery by his brothers out of envy, believing that they had seen the last of him. They were mistaken.
In his new home, it did not take long before Potiphar took notice of him and recognised God’s hand upon him. How did Potiphar, who did not know or fear the God of Israel, know this? He noticed that Joseph was a successful man and that the Lord prospered everything he did. Potiphar saw the increase in his wealth as God blessed him because of Joseph. Rather than become jealous or
feel threatened, he took advantage of Joseph’s success at things and made him overseer of his house.
Even in prison, “the keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper” (Genesis 39:23). The Keeper also recognised God’s hand on him. Do you recognise God’s hands on others or do you feel threatened by their gifting? One upon whom the hand of the Lord is will usually exhibit
excellence in their area of gifting. You must give them room to excel. Their blessings will only enhance your work and not diminish it. King Saul felt threatened by David’s gifting when he recognised God’s hand upon him. Rather than support him, he tried to kill him (1 Samuel 20:29-32). In what way are you doing the same?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord please forgive me for not recognising Your hand upon others.
2. Lord please help me to make room for others to thrive.
