Text:
Esther 2:5-7; 4:13-15;8:5&6
Memory Verse: “And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his
uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was
lovely and beautiful. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as
his own daughter” (Esther 2:7).
To adopt is to take on the legal responsibilities as the parent of a child that is not one’s biological child and become the foster parent and caretaker of the same. Adoptions are carried out for various reasons, chief of which is that the biological parents of the child are not or deemed not to
be in a position to perform their duties. The process strips them of their rights to the child permanently.
Esther was adopted by Mordecai because she was an orphan. He took full responsibility for her and guided her through life. She, in turn, deferred to him in everything, showing that adoption is a two way relationship. Esther’s adoption gave her an opportunity to follow God boldly and her adoption
changed the history of many others as she used her influence with the King to overturn the wicked decrees of Haman (Esther 8:3-12).
We have all been adopted by God, in love, through the death of His Son (John 3:16). God has also put you in a position to affect lives around you in your family, nuclear and extended, church, community and office by ‘adopting’ them. You can bring about a positive change in lives; so, be sensitive to God’spromptings. Adoption changes the adoptee’s path for life granting stability in
what would have otherwise been unstable circumstances.
As one adopted by God, spread the good news to everyone around you, so their lives too can change for the better. Let them know that in God they can find love, fulfilment and direction.
Prayer Points:
1. Lead me to a soul today, O Lord.
2. Lord, I want to make a difference in the lives of people around me.
