Text:
Luke 14:7-14
Memory Verse:
“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 14:11).
The two major character traits that determine what becomes of you at any point in time are pride and humility. No matter who you are, pride will always bring you down while humility is bound to lift you up – “A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honour” (Proverbs 29:23). God is ever ready to resist the proud and assist the humble – “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble” (1 Peter 5:5).
These two-character traits have determined the fate of people from time
immemorial:
1. Lucifer, through pride, lost his exalted position as an Archangel and was
brought down – “How you are fallen from heaven, Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12).
2. Nebuchadnezzar, through pride also lost his kingship and was turned into
an animal for seven years until he came to his senses and acknowledged God as the most High who reigns in the affairs of all men.
3. Moses who was clothed with humility that stood him out in his generation
and made him the untouchable friend of God.
2. Jesus’ unparalleled humility gave Him unprecedented glory.
3. Esther humbled herself, listening to and carrying out the instructions of
Mordecai. She eventually became Queen in spite of her low status in life.
Pride will always pull you down while humility will always take you up! Choose
to be humble.
Prayer Points:
1. God, I appreciate Your love, grace and favour over my family.
2. O Lord, rid me of every pride and clothe me with humility that will attract
Your grace for my good .
