Text:
Philippians 2: 5-11.
Memory Verse:
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the Name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth” (Philippians 2: 9&10).
A name is of great importance because it is your identity. It describes you; it speaks of your person. A name implies a claim of authority. Names are so powerful that they can affect a man’s destiny either for good or bad. The name of Jesus Christ means “Saviour” (Matthew 1: 21,25). Jesus Christ obtained an excellent name (Hebrew 1:4), which is above every other name. His name inspires confidence and is a stronghold in times of trouble. His name is a defence, and releases the captives from spiritual and physical captivity. To enjoy the power in Jesus’ name, you must have personal
knowledge of Him by accepting Him as Lord and Saviour, have unbroken fellowship with Him through Bible study, prayer and obedience to His word. Approach Him with reverential freedom and boldness. Don’t call His name irreverently or in pretence. Call His Name out of a sincere heart. Jesus has granted all believers the legal rights to use His Name (Mark 16:17-18).He will do anything we ask in His Name (John 14:13&14).
God honoured Jesus with the Name that is above every other name because He humbled Himself and was obedient to God. For us, therefore, to enjoy the power in the name of Jesus, we must also humble ourselves, believe in His name and obey Him at all times. The Bible says, ‘Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we
must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Prayer Points:
1. I receive the power and authority that is in the Name of Jesus to do exploits.
2. Holy Spirit, remind us in every situation to call upon Your name.
