Text: Luke 6:38, 2 Corinthians 9:6-11
Memory Verse: “Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).
Genesis 8:22 declares, “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night shall not cease.” This is the promise of God, the Giver. Our Christian faith is borne out of this cheerful and loving Giver, who gave up His Son for the salvation of men. As children of this great Father, we are expected to give
cheerfully, willingly and lovingly. Giving provides a twofold blessing to the receiver and the giver, as the giver is
recognised by God when giving is done with a sincere heart. For God loves a cheerful giver And God is able to make all grace abound toward such. He gives seeds to the sower and bread to the eater. “The generous soul will be made
rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself” (Proverbs 11:25).
Although Cornelius was an unbeliever, his giving and gracious acts were recognised by heaven so much so that God sent Peter to him making him the first gentile beneficiary of the salvation power of Jesus (Acts 10). Dorcas’s
giving also spoke, even in her death, and Peter was sent to raise her back to life. The Zarephath widow in Prophet Elijah’s days; Peter, the fisherman; the Shunammite woman in the days of Prophet Elisha; and Rahab, the prostitute,
are examples of people who gave, despite their trying situations. You do not have any excuse not to give cheerfully and lovingly, as desired by the Lord.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I receive grace to give cheerfully.
2. Lord, I receive grace to obey the promptings of the Spirit to give.
