Hebrew 12:1&2
Memory Verse:
“…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1c-2a).
Everyone in the world is running a race. Every race has starting and finishing points. The starting point and the finishing point are the day of birth and the day of death of an individual, respectively. It is possible to start and end well. Paul started his Christian race well when he met the Lord Jesus and finished well, despite the difficulties he faced (2 Timothy 4:6-8). Similarly, one can start well and end badly; that is the irony of life as seen in the lives of Judas Iscariot and King Saul. We are encouraged in 1Corinthians 9:24 “to … so run that we may obtain the prize”. Therefore, the need for divine assistance is required in this race because; by strength shall no man prevail. To win the race of life we must avoid the attractions and distractions of this world. Our focus must be on Heaven and not on earthly acquisitions. 1 Timothy 6:7 says “for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” Please do not let the earthly possessions rob you of eternal blessings.
In the race of life, the Bible encourages us to pursue holiness and righteousness without which, no man can end the heavenly race well. In doing this, believers are expected to draw near to God through prayers, studying the word of God, being good to others and living peacefully with them. Remember that the race of life is an individual one. You are, therefore, responsible for your success or failure.
Prayer Points:
1 Father, grant me the grace not to be distracted in this race.
2. Father, let me finish well at the end of my earthly race.
