Text:
Esther 3:5&6; 7:1-8
Memory Verse:
“When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone…Instead, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus—the people of Mordecai”
(Esther 3:5 & 6).
A wicked person is morally bad in principle or practice, mischievous or roguish, causing injury or harm, troublesome, unpleasant, or offensive. He can also be said to be e Winston S.
Churchill’s description of Hitler as, “this wicked man Hitler, the repository and embodiment of many forms of soul-destroying hatred”
Haman’s soul-destroying hatred for Mordecai made him desire to destroy, not just the one that offended him, but his entire race who knew nothing about the perceived offence! He became a self styled enemy of the Jews because of one man’s sin. Esther, therefore, rightly said to the king, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!” (Esther 7: 6a).
In what ways are you being wicked? Have you taken out the sin of one person on another; the offence of a parent on the children? Do you, because one person from a tribe or country has offended you, speak evil of everyone from that tribe or country? Psalm 7:11 says, “God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.” He hates the wicked and does not hear their prayers. It was the wickedness of the first world that led to its destruction by flood. Sodom and
Gomorrah were also destroyed because of their wickedness. The wicked, like Haman and everyone else like him, will be destroyed. Their evil was punished and so will yours, if you do not repent.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, please forgive me for any way in which I have been wicked.
2. Help me to recognise areas in which I need to make changes.
