Text:
Psalm 37:1-7
Memory Verse:
“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass” (Psalm 37:7).
Waiting is not an exciting experience. As humans, we want things Wdone as quickly as possible. When you are in the queue, some people try to jump the queue because no one likes to wait.
Unfortunately, we are in a time where the virtue of patience is very scarce. The world celebrates ‘hurry.’ Headlines like, “The first man to become a billionaire at the age of 20”, “How to make one million dollars in 30 days,” and so on abound.
While some of these may not be bad in themselves, sometimes and often, life does not happen as fast as we want. How we handle those waiting periods matters because we will face them. For example, some of us are currently waiting for jobs, children, salvation of loved ones, etc. In these periods, we have to hold on to the promises of God because we are assured that they will come
through. Through patience, we acquire characters that make us more like Christ. We are, thus, enjoined to “add…to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:5b-8).
Godliness is the goal we must strive towards as children of God. While we recognise that waiting is difficult, building godly character is essential to making heaven. Do not compromise your faith because you are in a hurry or want to be like others. God always comes through for us.
Prayer Points:
1. I receive grace to wait on You, Lord.
2. Lord, help me to keep my mind on You and not go ahead of You.
