Text: 1 Samuel 2: 22-26, 34-36

Memory Verse: “And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favour both with the Lord and men” (1 Samuel 2:26).

He was just a little boy in the midst of rebels, but somehow, he understood he could not go with the flow of malpractices in God’s house at the time. Right there in the temple, he witnessed double standards from a teacher who taught him one thing, and his children who were doing something totally different. No one could stop them, not even their father. Samuel was forced to live and put up with this kind of situation. Despite everything that was going on around him, he stood firm. In the midst of that spiritual decay, Samuel grew up in the fear and admonition of the Lord (1 Samuel 2:26).

God has set a standard for humans to live by. Throughout the Scripture, He made His expectations abundantly clear. Our lives, languages, interactions, and dispositions are structured by the divine principles stipulated in God’s
Word. We do not blend in or flow with the tide of perversion in the world, because our soul is anchored in Christ Jesus. As Christians, there is no question about whose standard we will live by. We belong to God, and will live by the principles He has set for us. Though we live and operate in the world, we are not of the world. The onus is on every
Christian to stand out from the crowd, shine the light of the Gospel, and point people in the right direction. It is our job to uphold the righteous standard set by God (Matthew 5:16).

Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me to live by the standard of Your word only.
2. I pray that my life would be guided by the instructions from the word of God alone.
