Text:
Genesis 4:1-7
Memory Verse:
“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it” (Genesis 4:7).
We are quite conversant with giving monetary and praise offerings in church. There is a time set apart for that during most services and many people are also encouraged to give with scriptures like
Deuteronomy 16:16 which admonishes us not to come into God’s presence empty handed. Cain and Abel were brothers, and both offered gifts in kind unto God in worship. While one was accepted, the other was not and the reason was clearly stated by God: “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door.” There was something fundamentally wrong with Cain’s offering! David and Solomon are also very good examples of people who
worshipped God with their substance in very admirable ways. Their offerings were big, mind blowing and acceptable to God. Though very small in monetary value, the offering of the widow in Mark 12:41-43 was commensurate with theirs in God’s eyes! Our gifts in kind, monetary gifts and
our songs of praise are very welcome to God, but can or should our way of life be an offering to God too?
The worship of God with your way of life is your response to who God is and what He has done. When He realised you had fallen short of His glory, He sent Jesus to die to redeem you. This was while you were still a sinner and didn’t understand your need for Him (Romans 3:23; 5:8).
God desires and deserves your worship. Give Him what is rightfully His.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I honour You with all that I have.
2. Let my offering be acceptable to You, O Lord.
