Text:
1 Kings 18:1-6
Memory Verse:
“And Ahab had called Obadiah, who was in charge of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly)” (1 Kings 18:3).
Obadiah found himself as the chief of staff to one of the wicked kings of Israel, Ahab. Despite working for an ungodly king in an ungodly environment, Obadiah chose to be different by fearing God greatly. No matter how corrupt the environment you live in is, dare to be incorruptible
like Samuel who, though young, did not join the children of Eli in their sinful acts (1 Samuel 2:22-26). No matter how sinful the people around you are, dare to live righteously like Noah. No matter the level of indiscipline around you, dare to live a disciplined and purposeful life like Daniel, who refused to be defiled by the king’s delicacies (Daniel 1:8). No matter the darkness around
you, dare to shine forth as light. Dare to be uncompromisingly righteous like Mordecai and no matter the deceit around you, be straightforward like Nathaniel.
The fear you have for God will determine your stand for holiness in this unholy world. He has given us such wonderful and great promises that compel us to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and pursue holiness, which is a prerequisite for fully tapping into these promises, provided it is done with all our hearts.
You must confirm yourself as a bona-fide child of God by daring to be different from all others in this sin-ridden world – “that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15).
Prayer Points:
1. O Lord, let my fear for You be such that I deny every form of worldliness, unrighteousness and fleshly lust.
2. Father, may I be Your ever-shining light in godliness and holiness.
