Text:
Acts 27: 9-11; 21-25.
Memory Verse:
“But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, ‘Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss’” (Acts 27:21).
Life can be very unpredictable and full of vagaries. Events often mock the Lhuman lack of foresight. With each dawning day comes a measure of uncertainty and risk that often makes nonsense of our knowledge, skill and experience. This is why Job aptly described the days of man as “few and full
of trouble” (Job 14:1).
Luckily, however, we are not left alone to face life’s challenges. Rather God placed us in churches under leaders and pastors for teaching, nurturing and counselling. He made adequate provision for us to fall back on when all else fails, but we often fail to use what God has freely given to us.
In Acts 27:10&11, Apostle Paul forewarned them of the dangers ahead, but they chose to believe the master and owner of the ship instead. Perhaps, because he was successful and had years of experience in the business of shipping. This is the same way many of us would behave when it comes to listening to the pastor. We hardly listened to them. In fact, we ridicule them.
The pastor may not tell you what he saw before he gave you the counsel you dismissed as stupid.
A reputable Doctor back then when we were still very young wanted to travel very early before dawn and was warned by his Pastor to wait till day break. He did not listen, but left, ran under a trailer as he was going and died. He shouldhave listened to his Pastor!
Prayer Points:
1. Holy Spirit, please deliver me from arrogance so that I don’t die the death of a fool.
2. Help me Lord, to honour my Pastors and spiritual head.
