Text: Numbers 14: 20-25
Memory Verse: “But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it” (Numbers 14:24).
You may have heard people say, “Others may, but I cannot.” This statement reflects total consecration to God, showing a heart and mind fully aligned with His will, regardless of what others may think, say, or do.
Twelve spies, including Caleb and Joshua, were sent to survey the Promised Land (Numbers 13:1&2). After forty days of exploration, they returned with both positive and negative reports. While ten spies filled the people with fear and discouragement through their negative report, Joshua and Caleb had the faith to trust in God’s promises (Numbers 14:6-9). Due to their lack of faith, the ten spies died from a plague, while Joshua and Caleb were spared because they
had a different spirit. Both entered the Promised Land.
David could have given in to defeat and discouragement when confronting the giant, Goliath. The size and reputation of Goliath alone were enough to discourage anyone, yet David had a different spirit and trusted in God, which led to his victory. This “different spirit” cannot be manufactured by human effort or the flesh. It is not simply a matter of external strength, zeal, or determination. The ten spies, after all, had these qualities, but still lacked what God was truly seeking. God looks for people with vision, faith, perseverance, encouragement, and loyalty to Him.
