Text: Ephesians 5:15-20
Memory Verse: “giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).
Thanksgiving is a heartfelt expression of gratitude, a public acknowledgement and celebration of God’s goodness. It is more than just an occasional act; it is a lifestyle that God expects us to embrace daily. True thanksgiving is not just a momentary response but a continuous attitude of appreciation.
I know a man who constantly gives thanks in everything he does, whether eating, waking up, driving, or walking. Every experience becomes a reason to thank God. His life reflects a constant awareness of God’s presence, much like Jesus, who demonstrated a lifestyle of thanksgiving.
Jesus always recognised His source and connection to the Father. Before performing miracles, He first gave thanks. When feeding the 5,000 and 4,000, respectively, He offered thanksgiving before breaking the bread and fish (Matthew 14:19; 15:36). At the tomb of Lazarus, He thanked God before calling him back to life (John 11:41). Even when instituting the Lord’s Supper, He gave thanks before sharing the bread and wine (Matthew 26:26&27).
Thanksgiving is not meant to be silent or hidden; it must be expressed. When Jesus healed ten lepers, only one returned to publicly thank Him, receiving even greater blessings. Similarly, Mary Magdalene’s act of gratitude was openly demonstrated.
You must choose to cultivate a heart of thanksgiving. Let gratitude become a natural part of your life, and watch how God transforms your circumstances. A thankful heart opens doors to greater blessings. Make thanksgiving your lifestyle! God appreciates and honours the thankful.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, I repent of my life of ingratitude to God and men.
2. Holy Spirit, let my life henceforth radiate thanksgiving.
