Text: Genesis 18:23-32
Memory Verse: “Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25).
Intercession, in the Christian context, is a powerful form of prayer in which a believer stands in the gap before God on behalf of others. It is not about presenting your own needs, but selflessly lifting up the burdens, needs, and situations of others such as salvation, healing, deliverance, provision, or
protection. It is an act of love, compassion, and spiritual responsibility.
The Scripture gives us many examples of intercessory prayer. Abraham interceded for the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, pleading with God to spare them. Though the cities were ultimately judged, it is significant that God listened to Abraham’s intercession. This reveals the important truth that God hears the voice of the intercessor.
Like Abraham, we too, as believers, have unhindered access to God, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. This access positions us to be intercessors, not just occasionally, but as a lifestyle. We are called to stand in the gap for families, nations, the lost, the hurting, and even those who persecute us. This sacred role must not be commercialised. Intercession is a ministry of grace, not a service for
payment. Avoid turning it into a performance or boasting about it. Let your prayers be offered in secret; your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly (Matthew 6:6).
Are you using your access to God to intercede for others? Souls are perishing, lives are broken. Become a faithful intercessor. Your prayers can change lives and destinies.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to cultivate a lifestyle of intercession.
2. Lord, encourage me with wonderful answers to my intercessions.
