Text: 2 Kings 2:1-5, 9-13
Memory Verse: “And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken from you?’ Elisha said, ‘Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me’” (2 Kings 2:9).
Two important lessons emerge from Elisha’s interaction with Elijah. What we ask for and our attitude in prayer matter more than how long we pray. Jesus said in Matthew 6:7&8, “When you pray, do not use vain repetitions…for they think they shall be heard for their much speaking.” Elisha was clear and intentional in his request. He asked for something hard and spiritually weighty; not fame or wealth, but a double portion of Elijah’s anointing. That single, focused, heaven-aligned request changed his destiny and made him one of the greatest prophets in history.
One powerful, purpose-driven, eternity-minded prayer can unlock a lifetime of divine impact. Elisha’s determination was unwavering; neither people nor obstacles, not even Elijah himself, could discourage him from receiving what he had set his heart on (2 kings 2:3-7).
Obedience to divine instruction is key. In 2 Kings 2:10, Elijah told Elisha, “Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so…” Elisha’s miracles were born out of obedience. When we seek life-changing blessings, God often responds with instructions. These may come directly or through His servants and may not always seem logical, but they carry divine purpose.
God often simplifies the process of accessing His favour through obedience. The key is not in reasoning it out, but in acting on His word. Obey, and you will receive. So, “Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known unto God” (Philippians 4:6).
Prayer Points:
1. Father, please deliver me from every barrier and discouragement on my way to success.
2. Holy Spirit, please impact grace to obey instructions on me.
