Text: Genesis 28:10-22

Memory Verse: “Then Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God’” (Genesis 28:20&21).

“new year” dawns for everyone at least twice in 12 months – at the Abeginning of every lunar year and on each birthday. “New years” can also start at the beginning of new projects or endeavours. Whichever it is, the beginning of a new period requires reflection and reassessment of the past and aplan for the future.
Divine guidance should be sought. How prepared are you for this “new year”? Will you travel this path alone or commit yourself to the Lord’s leading? Frances R. Havergal prayed:

Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be
In working or in waiting, another year with Thee;
Another year of progress, another year of praise,
Another year of proving Thy presence all the days.

Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace,
Another year of gladness in the shining of Thy face;
Another year of leaning upon Thy loving breast;
Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest.

Another year of service, of witness for Thy love,
Another year of training for holier work above;
Another year is dawning, dear Father, let it be
On earth, or else in Heaven, another year for Thee.
You can learn from Jacob’s experience and commitment of himself to God as he embarked on his first journey from home. God honoured this prayer and blessed him as he testifies in Genesis 32:9&10. You will testify of God’s goodness too, if you commit yourself to Him and allow Him to lead you.
Prayer Points:
1. Please go ahead of me this New Year, O Lord.
2. You know tomorrow, Lord. Walk with me as I execute these projects.
