Text: Matthew 26:20-25

Memory Verse: “Now as they were eating, He said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray me’” (Matthew 26:21).

Betrayal is one of the most painful experiences anyone can have. BSometime ago, a brother and a sister were engaged to be married. One day, after several years of courtship, the sister went to the brother’s house to pay him a visit and met another sister in the house. Unknown to her, he was also in a secret relationship with another sister. Upon confrontation, he made it clear that he was no longer interested in their relationship. His betrayal was a devastating blow that led to her hospitalization.

Jesus revealed that one of His disciples was going to betray him. He said this in the presence of the would-be betrayer, providing him an opportunity to change his mind, but Judas Iscariot was determined to fulfill the scripture, even though the scripture did not specifically ordain him as the one to betray Jesus. Remember that Jesus Himself chose him as a disciple and he was with Christ all through His ministry. He ate and drank with Christ; he enjoyed His provisions and protection, yet he betrayed Him. Jesus said woe is the man that betrays Him!

Are you a betrayer? As one chosen by God, in what ways are you betraying your master? Judas Iscariot was disloyal to Jesus because he was greedy and selfish. Are you greedy and selfish? Learn from the life of Judas Iscariot and never trade your Master, Jesus, for pleasure, money, promotion, career, cars, admission etc. Keep standing for the Lord and be loyal to Him till the end.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, give me grace never to betray You in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, help me to remain steadfast in my walk with You till the end in Jesus’ name.
