Are You Being Overwhelmed?

Text: 1 Kings 19:1-8

Memory Verse: “And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there” (1 Kings 19:3).

Imagine being in a situation where you feel trapped and overwhelmed, though you have served God faithfully. Like Elijah, you are tired and wondering why God is not showing up to help you. Elijah was battle worn and overwhelmed. He had come to a mental breakdown after his mountain top experience of calling down fire to consume the offering. John the Baptist was overwhelmed too and became unsure because he expected Jesus to come to his rescue (Luke 7:20).

Life’s pressures can tax us to our limits and overwhelm us. “Fatigue makes cowards of us all. You’ve got yours and I’ve got mine”, said a wise coach. Never underestimate the effect of Satan and outside influences (1 Peter 5:8). You must
take refuge under God. If you do not come apart to rest, you will come apart physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There’s a time for everything.” In the service of the Lord, there is also a time for everything; a time to minister to others and a time to be ministered to. Your spiritual life and faith in God suffer when you are
exhausted. You begin to question God’s wisdom, competence and ability.

Though Elijah had seen God do so many things, he suddenly saw Jezebel as a giant monster he could not overcome.
Though in Goliath, the Israelites saw a giant and themselves trapped in his shadow, David saw a giant God could overcome. Your God is bigger, do not be overwhelmed.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, forgive me for allowing myself to be overwhelmed.
2. I serve the Almighty God, who is greater than all, and He will help me.
