Text: 2 Chronicles 15: 1-8
Memory Verse: “And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: ‘Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you but if you forsake Him, He will forsake
you’” (2 Chronicles 15:1).
Spiritual dryness occurred among the Israelites because the priests were not teaching the right way. There was much spiritual mediocrity because, for long, Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and
without the law. Notable among the kings of Judah and Israel who brought spiritual dryness was Ahab. His unbridled worship of Baal almost caused the extinction of the prophets of God, but for the timely intervention of Obadiah who hid a hundred of the Lord’s prophets by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water (1 Kings 18:13).
Another phase of spiritual dryness is recorded in 1 Samuel 3:1 “Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” The result of spiritual dryness can be felt in all spheres of life – economic, physical, financial and religious. Steps to take to avoid spiritual dryness include:
1. Read to understand the word of God, and memorise it.
2. Practise what the word of God says.
3. Do not allow your physical appetite to override your spiritual appetite.
4. Get alone with God to clear your mind and quieten your soul.
5. Pray always.
6. Draw spiritual energy by meditating on the word of God.
7. Maintain a humble spirit – do not give in to pride.
8. Be guided by the Holy Spirit before you take decisions
9. Do not be mediocre in spiritual matters. Seek God diligently.
