Text: Galatians 5:22-25
Memory Verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22&23).
Somebody once wrote that “character development is a priority for Christian living.” Indeed, to live godly, righteously, and victoriously as Christians, we must be intentional about building our character. This process, however, is not instant; it is slow, deliberate, and often painful. It involves cultivating the fruit of the Spirit and other godly virtues while passing through the fire of trials and temptations.
James encourages us in this journey: “Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking
nothing” (James 1:2-4). Patience is not passive; it is a powerful force that allows us to endure, grow, and mature into who God intends us to be.
Character building is much like the metamorphosis of a butterfly. It must pass through all four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. During the pupa stage, dramatic transformation occurs in hidden, uncomfortable places. If someone attempts to “help” by prematurely opening the chrysalis, the butterfly will emerge weak and deformed, unable to fly. Likewise, if we seek shortcuts in our spiritual growth, we risk missing out on the strength and maturity God desires
for us.
So, the next time you face trials, remember: God is shaping, refining, and strengthening your character. Do not resist the process. Cooperate with God, trust His timing, and allow patience to have its perfect work.
Prayer Points:
1. Holy Spirit, help me endure the process of character building.
2. Father, let my life be beautiful for You.
