Text: Genesis 29:15-19; Matthew 5:6
Memory Verse: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
No one can clearly explain the deep affection and love between a man and a woman. How does it develop and grow, such that there is a Ndeep longing for each other? Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days because of his love for her (Genesis 29:19). How hungry and thirsty are you for God, righteousness and godliness? Enough to make room for Him, to be with Him, to know what He expects from you and do it, no matter the cost?
Though they both loved Jesus, Martha opened her home to Him, but Mary gave Him undivided attention (Luke 10:38-42). The need for you to cultivate a deeper relationship with God is captured by Sarah Flower Adams’s hymn ‘Nearer my God to Thee: “Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee! E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me, still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee; nearer to Thee.”
What does being intentional about cultivating a deeper relationship mean? You must desire it. In human relationships, you think more about your loved ones, make an effort to spend more time with them, and please them. They are in your waking thoughts and consideration most of the time.
What do you need to do differently in cultivating your relationship with God? Jacob served for another seven years to get Rachel. You will only succeed when you cultivate God’s relationship with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13).
Prayer Points:
1. May I adequately reciprocate Your deep love for me, O Lord.
2. Show me the ways I can get to know You better, Lord.
