Text: Psalm 23:1-6
Memory Verse: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

The encounter between Danladi and the gari seller offers a profound lesson on the human desire for “extras.” Just like Danladi, many often believe that it is the “jara” (extra) that will satisfy or sustain. They chase after more, thinking that the additional portion or effort will give what is needed to thrive. This attitude often leads to abandoning spiritual commitments like paying tithes or attending worship services, all in the pursuit of “extras”.

The truth is that it is not the extras that sustain; it is the grace of God. God’s grace is the unseen force that multiplies efforts and stretches resources. As Proverbs 10:22 confirms, it is God’s blessing, not the pursuit of extras, that brings true prosperity, peace, and sustenance.

Many people have lost more than they gained in their pursuit of extras. Instead of chasing after the “extras,” seek God’s favour and grace, which can do far more than you can imagine. God’s favour makes what you have sufficient, like the Zarephath’s widow’s oil that kept flowing till her needs were fully met (1 Kings 17:14-16). His blessing can keep you from the devourer, multiplying your efforts and protecting you from harm.

The key is to trust in God’s provision, not in the pursuit of “jara”. A life rooted in God’s favour will always reflect His blessings and protection. Pray to live in the grace of God, knowing that it is His favour, not the extras, that sustains and blesses a man.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to depend on Your grace and not on the gratification of men.
2. Father, You are my shepherd, I shall not want.
