Do Not Be a Part-Time Christian

Text: Luke 9:57-62
Memory Verse: “But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).

The call to follow Jesus is not merely an invitation to believe in Him; it is a call to full-time, wholehearted discipleship. When Jesus said to His disciples, “Follow Me, and I will make you…” in Matthew 4:19, He was inviting them into a life of radical commitment and total surrender. Following
Jesus requires laying down personal ambitions, comforts, and even relationships that compete with obedience to Him.

In Luke 9:57-62, we see individuals who wanted to follow Jesus, but only on their own terms. They had priorities and attachments they were unwilling to give up, not even for the sake of the kingdom. Jesus made it clear that halfhearted followers were not fit for kingdom service. He seeks those who will follow Him fully, not those who constantly look back.

Looking back to the pleasures, distractions, or sins of the past makes you spiritually unproductive. Jesus cannot use a divided heart. A part-time Christian is a full-time sinner, an easy tool in the hands of the enemy. The Lord desires your full allegiance.

Today, firmly decide to follow Jesus without reservation. Let go of every old attachment, habit or lifestyle that holds you back. Step into the life of purpose and transformation He has called you to. As Revelation 14:4 says, “Follow the Lamb wherever He goes.” That is the mark of a true disciple, one who follows Christ completely and without delay. The Lord is depending on you.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, please help me as I purge my life of everything that makes me a part-time Christian.
2. I come against anything that will make me look back.
