Doing God’s Work Deceitfully

Text: Jeremiah 48:3-10
Memory Verse: “Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord deceitfully. And
cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood” (Jeremiah 48:10).

This prophecy against Moab was fulfilled during the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar. It stands as a sober reminder of the consequences of doing the work of God without a heart fully committed to Him. God sees beyond outward actions; He weighs the motives of the heart. While it may be possible to impress or deceive people with displays of service or commitment, God cannot be deceived. Every act, intention, and thought is laid bare before Him.

One key lesson from this passage is the importance of sincerity in our service to God; especially for those in leadership. Those whom God calls to lead His people must be faithful and willing servants of His Word. Leadership in God’s house is not merely about holding a title or performing duties; it is about embodying the truth of God’s Word and leading by example.

God governs, strengthens, and builds faith through His Word. As such, those who serve must be deeply rooted in the scriptures, allowing their minds to be renewed daily (Romans 12:2). Only then can we serve acceptably and in alignment with God’s will.

Moreover, true servants of God must be convinced that the Lord is their strong defence, that He equips and backs everyone He sends to proclaim His Word (Philippians 2:13). This assurance brings courage and stability in service. So, how are you doing the work of God? Is your commitment genuine? May your service be rooted in truth and devotion that pleases the Lord.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, grant me the grace to do Your work with all my heart.
2. Purge my heart of every deceit, O Lord my God.
