“Evil Communication Corrupts Good Manners”?

Text: Psalm 1:1-3, 1 Corinthians 15:33&34
Memory Verse: “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly…” (Psalm 1:1).

In a recent Sunday School class, someone asked, “Can a Christian go to a nightclub?” Surprisingly, opinions in the class were divided. What should have been a straightforward answer became a subject of debate. We often forget that while we are in the world, we are not of it. We are called to stand out, not blend in. The most common things that happen at clubs are the consumption of alcoholic beverages, loud worldly music, immoral dancing, stripping, seminaked people dancing for money, vaping and smoking, and drug use.

These activities pollute the spirit and do not reflect Christ’s character. We are called to holiness, and without it, no one will see the Lord. Some claim they can go without participating, but even being there is dangerous. In Genesis 34, Dinah only went to “see,” yet her presence led to her being raped and caused tragedy in her family.

Proverbs 4:14&15 warns us to avoid the path of the wicked entirely. Being in the wrong place can lead to sin, accusation, or harm. Many have been assaulted or arrested simply by being in ungodly environments.

Do not deceive yourself. You cannot go to a place of sin and pray not to sin; it is spiritual pride and a form of tempting God. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, “Be not deceived: evil communication corrupts good manners.” If you belong to Christ, let your choices of where you go also reflect Him.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me avoid environments that dishonour You.
2. Lord, give me grace to shine as Your light in a dark world.
