Text: Hebrews 12:1&2
Memory Verse: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2 NIV).

On May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister made history by becoming the first person to run a mile in under four minutes. Just two months later, John Landy broke that record, beating it by 1.4 seconds. Then, on August 7th of the same year, the two met in a highly anticipated race. As the race reached its final stretch, Landy was in the lead. But just before the finish line, he glanced over his shoulder to check Bannister’s position. In that brief moment of distraction, Bannister surged ahead and won the race. Reflecting on the loss, Landy later said, “If I hadn’t looked back, I would have won.”

This story offers a powerful spiritual parallel: As believers, we are also in a race. What is distracting us? Is it the demands of daily life – work, school, or the pursuit of success? Is it the cares of family, ministry, rivalry, or an unresolved hurt? Or is it the pull of pleasure, entertainment, or the comfort of routine? Whatever it is, do not look back or lose focus.

The race we run is not for earthly applause, but for a crown that lasts forever. Whereas Bannister and Landy ran for a fading trophy, we are running for eternal glory. The distractions are real. The temptations are strong. But so is the grace of God. The Scripture reminds us that our eyes must remain fixed on Jesus – our goal, guide, and finisher of our faith. He is the true prize.

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me to run my race with determined focus on Jesus.
2. Father, remove every distraction that seeks to steal my attention from You.
