From “Mara” to “Manasseh”

Text: Genesis 37:26-28; 41:41-45, 50&51
Memory Verse: “And Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt’” (Genesis 41:41).

Joseph endured deep hatred and suffering from brothers who should have loved him. He experienced the painful side of life, not because of his actions, but because of his allegiance to God and circumstances beyond his control. Yet, despite all his trials, he remained unwavering in his faith, choosing to trust God fully.

“Mara” symbolises the bitter, painful experiences that Christians face, oftentimes in their effort to please God. These include the loss of loved ones, denials, persecutions, mistreatment, or misunderstandings that come from those they love and care for. Joseph faced most of these – he truly went through fire and water – but God was with him (Genesis 39:2). Naomi too lost nearly her entire family, but God did not forsake her (Ruth 1:3-5, 20 & 21; 4:13-16).

The God who changes times and seasons did not forget Joseph and Naomi. He brought them into a place of prosperity and peace, replacing their hardship with joy. God blessed Joseph with Manasseh, which means comfort and restoration. May this be your testimony too.
What difficult experiences are you facing right now? In your home, at work, or even in church? Hold on to God in faith. He is able to turn your situation around. Just as He did for Joseph and Naomi, He will bring you through your trials. Your season of restoration is on the way. Keep trusting, for God is faithful to bring you into a place of peace and joy.

Prayer Points:
1. Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness in my life’s journey.
2. Lord, turn every unpleasant situation in my life around for good.
